FISHING TRIP OF A LIFETIME, BIG SKY CHATERS, STERLING AK!
I have lived in Alaska and have been fishing in Alaska for over 40 years. I have been fortunate enough to fish with many different outfitters & charters from Alaska to Costa Rica. None of them compares to the level of joy and excitement I have experienced lodging and chartering at Big Sky Charters. I have invited groups of up to 8 people each time I have visited Big sky, including wives, family members, work associates. All have had an amazing time, and all want to revisit! Big Sky Charters is nestled right on the banks of the beautiful Kenai river just outside Sterling AK. Wildlife and breath-taking scenery are bountiful! Bear, Moose, Bald Eagles are routinely sited from camp and on the river. The logging is made up of many different individual cabins build to accommodate 1 to 6 adults very comfortably. Every place I have fished has been beautiful and enjoyable. What sets Big Sky apart from all the rest, is the staff & guilds. The guilds are the savviest I’ve experienced! They are armed with the best boats & equipment. They are extremely safe, experienced & professional. Their fun and knowledgeable personalities make the trips twice as enjoyable. The entire staff is accommodating, interactive, fun, and enjoyable to visit with. The fish processing is very professional and clean. They clean, filet, vacuum pack, freeze, box and will ship your bounty. This makes for a delicious treat every time I open a package of filets once home.
Regardless of the body of water, whether we are fishing on the Kenai river, on Skilak Lake, out of Sward or Homer, it is the best I’ve experienced.
I am looking forward to a return trip in 2025!!

We loved all the games and friendly competition while on the boats. Your guides were awesome.

This Alaskan fish camp experience begins when you drive into camp. You are welcomed by everyone on site, willing to help you carry and get settled. Your lodging gives you privacy, and then the campfire gives you people from all over the country. Ella ensures your stay and fishing are the best, and anything you need is provided. Your fish are handled and processed as you want. And town is about 12 minutes away for any jaunt to a ballgame or restaurants. Yes, even we Alaskans love it, as we wait for next year.

Big Sky and Joe Connor know the Kenai and salmon fishing. Joe and his guides are the best. If you are looking for accommodations and salmon guides… you will not be disappointed.

The staff was as good as it gets. The guides also were as good as it gets. The rooms were clean and nice.

Big Sky is in a great location, right on the Kenai. Ella and her crew are awesome about scheduling and communication. The property is large with everything you need, such as rods, waders, boots, rain gear, etc. Some of the cabins are more rustic than others but have everything you need, and the beds are comfortable. It was a great vacation.

Big Sky Charter & Fish Camp’s owner Joe is a wonderful man who has years of experience and knowledge of the Kenai River and its layout. His lodge fronts the riverside, and you can fish from shore.
If you’re looking to experience true river fishing, Joe has fishing guides that will take you out for a full or half day. Each guide is certified and is an avid fisherman, both knowledgeable and personable.
After you catch your fish… (this is the part that I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE)… Joe and his team will clean the fish for you!! *yayy!!* You can take the parts that you want to make sashimi out of or cook for meals, the rest they will vacuum pack, freeze, and package for you to take home.
This is definitely on my “to-do” list for next salmon season!!! If you go, please send them my Aloha!!!
