The Kenai River is the longest river, 82 miles, in the Kenai Peninsula of south-central Alaska. The Kenai River is a meltwater river that drains the central Kenai Peninsula region; its source is the Kenai Lake. The Kenai River is a popular sports fishing destination and is famous for its King or Chinook Salmon. Every year there are two runs each of King Salmon, Red Salmon, Silver Salmon, plus Pink Salmon every other year. The world record King Salmon was caught in the Kenai River in 1985 and weighed about 97 lb. The Kenai is also home to trophy size Dolly Varden and Rainbow Trout.
