What To Bring On Your Kenai River Fishing Trip

What To Bring On Your Kenai River Fishing Trip

When planning next year’s Kenai River fishing trip, it is essential to know what to bring. Whether you want to visit in May for our saltwater combo trip for Halibut and King Salmon or you want to fish the river for salmon and trout, it is good to have the right gear so you can focus on luring in the perfect fish. At Big Sky Charter we will provide rods, reels, and tackle, so all you have to worry about is packing your bag and coming to Sterling, Alaska.

It is essential on your fishing trip to bring plenty of layers. When out on the open water you never know what kind of weather you will get. In the morning it will be cold but when the sun comes up you will want to shed some layers. You will also want one of those layers to be a rain jacket. Being by the ocean, the weather can change in an instant, and the clouds can open up and rain down. Waterproof shoes are recommended but closed toed shoes will work as well. Hats are another thing to keep on hand and on your head to protect you from the sun and from overheating.

Extra Gear

Fishing means you will be around water and the reflective glare can be intense and uncomfortable so bring sunglasses to cut through the water and see the fish. Also, bring sunscreen and lip balm to keep you safe on those extended fishing charters. If you get motion sickness bring some over the counter remedies. A water bottle will also help keep you hydrated and from feeling sick. A big thing you should not forget is your camera. You will be making lifelong memories on your Kenai River fishing trip, so it is important to capture those moments, especially if you catch a trophy fish! Lastly, bring a bag or backpack. You will need a place to store all of this gear and having a bag will keep everything together, so your hands are free to fish!
